Background
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), supports extramural research focused on understanding, controlling, and preventing diseases caused by virtually all infectious agents. In response to threats presented by emerging infectious diseases and bioterrorism, the NIAID Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID) has established complementary research programs to facilitate development of medical countermeasures (MCMs) for certain pathogens and toxins. This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) solicits applications to participate in the Centers of Excellence for Translational Research (CETR) program, comprising multi-disciplinary collaborations with diverse research communities in infectious diseases, microbiology, –omics, immunology, and vaccinology focused upon the development of MCMs and associated platforms/technologies targeting bacteria or fungi with known and emerging resistance to current therapies.

Grant Details
The objective of this NOFO is to support a program of multi-project translational research Centers focused on advancing potential MCM candidates (therapeutics, immunotherapeutics, vaccines, vaccine technologies, and in vitro diagnostics) for known or emerging AMR bacteria and fungi beyond discovery through preclinical development. The NOFO will support multidisciplinary translational research centers focused on generating, validating, and advancing medical countermeasures against bacteria or fungi listed in the NOFO with known and emerging resistance to current therapies. The program will focus on transforming basic science outcomes into new approaches for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment to combat known and emerging resistant bacterial and fungal pathogens. The grant will support development of countermeasures to protect the public from infectious diseases by facilitating discovery and development of the next generation of therapeutics, vaccines, and diagnostics.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions, nonprofits with 501(c)(3) IRS status, for-profit organizations including small businesses, local governments, state governments, federal governments, U.S. Territory or Possession entities, faith-based or community-based organizations, regional organizations, non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities (Foreign Organizations), foreign components of U.S. Organizations.
