Description

The BMMB program supports fundamental research in biomechanics and mechanobiology. The program emphasizes multiscale mechanics approaches that integrate across molecular, cell, tissue and organ domains in the study of organisms. Projects may include theoretical, computational, and experimental approaches. An important concern is the influence of in vivo mechanical forces on cell and matrix biology in the histomorphogenesis, maintenance, regeneration and aging of tissues. The program also is interested in efforts to translate recent mechanobiological discoveries into engineering science. The program encourages the consideration of diverse living tissues as smart materials that are self-designing.
