Description

The Embassy of the United States in Guatemala announces an open competition for alumni (i.e., past participants) of U.S. government-funded and U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs to submit applications to the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) for the 2025 cycle. Proposals must be submitted by teams composed of three or more State Department program alumni and must meet all program eligibility requirements as listed below.

AEIF provides alumni of U.S. government-sponsored and -facilitated exchange programs with funding to expand on skills gained during their exchange experience to design and implement innovative solutions to global challenges facing their community. Since its inception in 2011, AEIF has funded nearly 500 alumni-led projects around the world through a competitive global competition. This year, AEIF 2025 will support the United States' commitment to improve good governance and help Guatemala become more prosperous and more secure.

Background

AEIF provides funding to alumni to expand on skills gained during their exchange experience and implement innovative solutions to global challenges in their communities. Since its inception in 2011, AEIF has funded nearly 500 alumni-led projects worldwide, supporting the U.S. commitment to improve governance and help Guatemala become more prosperous and secure.

Grant Details
Proposals must be submitted by teams composed of at least three State Department program alumni and should address one or more of the following themes: improving resilience to natural disasters, addressing factors promoting irregular migration, promoting rule of law and governance, fostering economic growth through support for entrepreneurs, and building civil society capacity. The U.S. Embassy will review public service projects proposed by these teams. Proposals must include a detailed project description, goals and objectives, methods and design, local partners, communication plans, monitoring and evaluation strategies, and a budget justification narrative.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include alumni of U.S. Government-funded or sponsored exchange programs who form teams of at least three members. U.S. citizen alumni may not submit proposals but can participate as team members. Not-for-profit organizations may serve as implementing partners but cannot apply on behalf of the project.

Period of Performance
Proposed programs should be completed by or before January 30, 2026.

Individual awards range from $5,000 to $30,000.

Place of Performance
All project activities must take place outside of the United States and/or its territories.
