Overview
Government Description
Construction of the new third lock, new lock at the soo, sault ste. Marie, Michigan. Includes construction of the lock chamber, new power plant bridge, new shaft (SHAFT 6), stabilization of existing lock walls, demolition of the existing sabin lock, rock excavation, placement of a mud mat, construction of wide wall monoliths, fabrication and installation of upstream ship arrestors, miter gates, and culvert valves, and phase one of the new pump well. Additional tasks include relocation and installation of duct banks, bridge alignment and repairs, installation and adjustment of maintenance pumps, tunnel and drainage connections, hazardous water and soil removal, asbestos abatement, modifications to ship arrestors and miter gates, installation of hands-free mooring systems, and improvements to electrical and hydraulic systems. The project also addresses drainage, dewatering, water quality testing and treatment, and the construction of approach walls and hybrid walls for mooring area expansion.
