Government Description
Next generation chemical detector 1 aerosol and vapor chemical detector effort. This effort supports the development and fielding of the XM12 Aerosol & Vapor Chemical Agent Detector (AVCAD), a portable, ten-pound, man-portable system providing detection and alarm capabilities for vapor and aerosol chemical attacks, and enabling post-attack actions such as reconnaissance, surveillance, and decontamination operations. The AVCAD will be used by the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps in both dismounted and mounted configurations, including on manned and unmanned platforms, and will replace current shipboard chemical detection systems and support aviation platforms. Includes Engineering And Manufacturing Development (EMD), government testing, program and logistics support, and delivery of technical data for the AVCAD systems.

Dec 2019: Smiths Detection, Edgewood, Maryland, was awarded an $11,734,549 modification (P00013) to contract W911SR-18-C-0033 for aerosol vapor chemical agent detector systems.  Work will be performed in Edgewood, Maryland, with an estimated completion date of May 29, 2020.  Fiscal 2020 research, development, test and evaluation funds in the amount of $2,861,673 were obligated at the time of the award.  U.S. Army Contracting Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, is the contracting activity.
