Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) Phase I
Title
Development of Polarimetric SWIR camera System Counter Swarming UAVs
Abstract
Militaries from around the world are pursuing the capability of using swarms of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) for future defense as well as attack capabilities. To defend against adversarial drone swarm attacks it will be critical to not only detect small flying objects but to also be able discriminate against clutter both natural avian clutter as well as man-made chaff OneLight Sensing is pleased to propose the Peregrine counter-UAS (C-UAS) polarimetric camera system development program. OneLight Sensing is teaming with Prof. Michael Kudenov of North Carolina State University for the proposed Peregrine program. Prof. Kudenov specializes in novel imaging systems capable of maximizing the spatial, spectral, and/or polarimetric information Through the proposed development program, the OneLight Sensing team will develop and demonstrate the high capability Peregrine polarimetric imaging system compatible with both fixed terrestrial and mobile host platforms. Peregrine will employ advanced optical designs for long range high resolution imaging as well as wide area search capabilities and advance machine learning to detect and identify dangerous threats from other airborne objects.
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization.
