Research Type
Small Technology Transfer Research Program (STTR) Phase I
Title
Precision Control of High-speed Autonomous Vehicles under High Disturbances
Abstract
Corvid and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte will provide high quality simulation environment conditions for the study and development of novel, precision control algorithms for UAS. The team will develop novel UAS control software that enables precise trajectory tracking in the presence of unsteady and complex disturbances in the flight environment, and we will verify the novel controllers through extensive software simulations with high fidelity effects. We will simulate the complex wind shear environments in urban environments and high explosive blast propagations, analyze the effect these environments have on UAS by developing new plug-ins for existing software environments, and demonstrate the differences of including these high-fidelity effects over the existing UAS simulation solutions. In addition to developing complex wind environments and simulator plug-ins, we will also provide novel perception solutions that enable the precision control of UAS along predefined and recalculated trajectories in environments with dynamic obstacles.
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization. STTRs are completed in conjunction with a research institution.
