Government Description
Non-personal services for surveillance of emerging infectious diseases in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and sub-saharan africa for the walter reed Army institute of research - medical research detachment - africa. Supports the mission of wrair and usamrd-a to survey and characterize etiologic agents of infectious diseases, including Febrile Vector-Borne Infections (FVBI), Respiratory Infections (RI), Enteric Infections (EI), Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), and antimicrobial resistant bacterial infections (AMR) across priority nations such as Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Uganda. Surveillance and research activities are conducted in both military and civilian hospitals in multiple regions and environments, with laboratory activities including surveillance, clinical trial support, and research performed throughout the continent. The program is funded by the DOD armed forces health surveillance division, Global Emerging Infections Surveillance (GEIS) branch, and leverages a global laboratory network to provide timely, actionable infectious disease surveillance information to Geographic Combatant Commands (GCC) and surveillance agencies.
