Title
Personal Water Desalination
Abstract
In this Phase 1 SBIR proposal, Vuronyx Technologies will design an energy efficient, low footprint water desalination system for individual water treatment. The proposed system will be based on hybridcapacitive deionization (CDI) system to remove ions, and can be integrated with other approaches to remove microbes, pathogens, and organic contaminants. In prior work, Vuronyx Technologies has demonstrated optimized CDI systems that ~45% lighter than conventional CDI systems, and can be operated at lower voltages to minimize energy consumption as well as to optimize the outlet salt concentration. The personal desalination system can also be used by campers and hikers, as well as in underdeveloped countries.5 Such devices will also find use in remote and disaster-struck regions with limited access to energy and trained professionals.
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization.
