SBIR Details

Research Type
Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) Phase II
Title
STretchable Robust Electronic Tracker and Continuous Health monitoring system (STRETCH)
Abstract
In response to Army SBIR solicitation A224-025 entitled Wearable Technologies for Physiological Monitoring, MaXentric proposes a stretchable electronic patch capable of capturing multiple physiological parameters including heart rate, respiration rate, temperature, and motion. By integrating electronic components into a stretchable material, the patch is capable of conforming to the nonplanar and dynamic surfaces of the human body, affording user comfort and a reliable interfacing with the body. We target multiple days of operability for long-term monitoring to capture physiological state across multiple environmental factors. Cost effective materials and COTS components are employed to afford disposability. Data is transmitted to a nearby end user device (e.g., smartphone or tablet). In Phase I work, MaXentric demonstrated simultaneous acquisition of multiple parameters, leveraging previous work. During Phase II, MaXentric will integrate the electronic hardware into the stretchable material, going through multiple iterations to identify optimal component selection and layout placement to ensure stretchability and conformability. Additionally, algorithms will be developed for monitoring performance and assessing operational readiness.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
