Abstract
The goal of this SBIR project is to develop plug-and-play query-based platform that provides a general and scalable solution to CAD-CAE and CAE-CAE interoperability problems. The approach is based on the following observations: (1) the shape and material information in any CAD model may be abstracted by a finite collection of queries -- formally defined and computable functions -- that eliminate the need for preprocessing, conversion and transfer of CAD models; (2) Most of CAE interoperability challenges reduce to the need to allocate and sample basis functions and their derivatives over geometric domain and its boundary that are already represented unambiguously in every CAD system. The Phase I of the project demonstrated that the legacy CAE codes may be supplemented with standardized queries, allowing automated analysis on non-conforming meshes (of space), eliminating the need for semi-manual preprocessing or meshing, and achieving automated plug-and-play CAD-CAE interoperability. Specific objectives of the Phase II project include: development of comprehensive approaches to fully interoperable CAD-CAD and CAD-CAE challenges to be deployed on the platform, design of industrial grade plug-and-play platform, and deployment of the platform as a standalone library and a web product.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
