Title
Firestorm Interpretation Layer (FIL) and Firestorm Application Repository System (FARS)
Abstract
The main goal of the FIL-FARS program is to work on methods to maintain and monitor compatibility between the Robotic Research OCU and Firestorm. Both the OCU and Firestorm are constantly evolving, making it difficult to maintain compatibility between the two systems. The Firestorm Interface Layer (FIL) and the Firestorm Application Repository System (FARS) were proposed as potential means to solve this problem. The Firestorm Interface Layer acts as a translator between the two systems, isolating each from changes occurring in the other. Implementing the Firestorm Interface Layer involved the identification and standardization of two interfaces, and the mapping of control and data between these two interfaces. One was the interface used by Firestorm to communicate commands and data between itself and the OCU. The second was the programming API used to access the functions and data of the OCU.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
