Abstract
Diminishing manufacturing source problems continue to cause shortages for critical DoD weapons systems, negatively impacting readiness. Subcomponents become obsolete and manufacturers go out of business, and it becomes difficult for the government to acquire approved parts at a fair or reasonable price or at any price. The Air Force, Army, and Navy have an urgent need for a range of aging and unsupported components. TAF has identified a list of candidates for Reverse Engineering (RE) during the Phase II effort. TAF will deliver each NSN to the Services for SAR testing, along with TDPs for each. TAF will demonstrate to the Engineering Support Activities (ESAs) via a Source Approval Request (SAR) that the replacement is manufactured to the same level of quality or better than the existing approved source. The replacement parts will become approved sources for these NSNs.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
