Abstract
Camera systems continue to increase in performance and reduce in price causing their proliferation for a wide range of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) and automatic target acquisition (ATA) applications. However, regardless of the quality of the underlying hardware itself, these systems still face limitations due to environmental conditions, dynamic and challenging operating scenarios, platform and object motion, etc. Overcoming these obstacles can be difficult or impossible by only modifying camera hardware. Instead, digital approaches offer the potential to address these limitations and add capabilities, all at lower cost. In this project, EM Photonics will combine previously developed and newly created image enhancement components into a real-time video enhancement solution for Navy applications. The final solution will process live video on a low size, weight, and power (SWaP) platform.
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization. STTRs are completed in conjunction with a research institution.
