Title
Phenix Ultra 2XL - Next Gen Logistics UAS
Abstract
Introduction: Phenix Solutions is grateful for the opportunity to introduce our Heavy Vertical Lift Rotary UAS technology under this Phase I SBIR for the NAVAIR Logistics in a Contested Environment requirements. Phenix is pleased to present our Ultra 2XL UAS Aircraft for consideration as a Next Gen Logistics UAS Aircraft. Phenix is well postured to deliver significant benefit to the Navy by leveraging our work with the USAF Agility Prime program. Phenix has advanced flight testing for the Ultra 2XL with this support from the USAF. Additionally, Phenix was recently selected as the OEM to provide a variant of the Ultra 2XL aircraft for the US Navy/USMC Medium Unmanned Logistic Systems Air (MULS-A) program with our system integration partners at Leidos. Under this contract the Ultra 2XL will achieve a Navy Cat 3 Interim Flight Clearance (IFC) in concert with the MULS-A Demo scheduled in Q3 FY-24 in Yuma, AZ. Aircraft Overview: The Phenix Ultra 2XL is a Coaxial, multi-missioned, remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) with an estimated MTOW of 3,000lbs (over 1,400lbs useful payload) and an internal fuel range over 100 nm. The Phenix Ultra 2XL aircraft represents transformative innovative value that is technically mature and delivers unprecedented heavy lift performance and range that is tangible, low cost, low risk, and attainable. With the design, proof of concept prototyping, and associated prototype flight tests behind us; we now look forward towards full scale flight testing, civil certification (FAA Part 27 Type Certification), and production of the Ultra 2XL. Phenix Solution s Ultra 2XL provides an existing UAS vehicle design uniquely for use as a tactical unmanned resupply aircraft. Ultra 2XL provides last tactical mile delivery with a large cargo capacity, medevac capability, vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) with a long range. Also, shipboard launch and recovery is adapted to current US Navy Recover Assist Secure and Traverse (RAST) systems as well as a choice between cargo delivery systems dependent upon the operational scenario. Benefits and Features: The Phenix Ultra 2XL is a multi-mission UAS that can perform multiple military and civilian missions beyond a visual line of sight without exposing pilots and crew to hostile environment. Mission modules can be reconfigured quickly in the field according to mission needs. Ultra 2XL has several existing enabling technologies that support the objectives of this SBIR Topic. Mission capabilities and operational attributes support both Application 1 (Tactical Unmanned Resupply) and Application 2 (Large Intra-Theater Lift), it is potentially attritable with affordable mass. It has low detectability, minimal ship infrastructure requirements, compact storage as stated previously, launch and recovery mechanisms for some ship classes, cargo handling mechanisms for minimal personnel, ease of manufacture, ease of battle damage repair, and heavy fuel (JP5) capable.
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization.
