SBIR Details

Research Type
Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) Phase II
Title
Holographic Enabled Display System for Force-on-Force Marine Training
Abstract
The objective of the Phase II work effort is to produce and demonstrate a wearable helmet mounted Holographic Enabled Display System (HEDS) for Augmented Reality (AR) applications. The innovative design surpasses all currently available see-through near-to-eye HUDs and AR displays for field of view (FOV), brightness, resolution and use with optics such as night vision devices and rifle scopes. HEDS will have daylight usability and an ultra-wide field of view (>180 degrees) based on a proven, unique and cost effective holographic imageguide concept. The display enhances the users' situational awareness (SA) by presenting high density visual information to the user in a manner that closely matches spatial and temporal acuity across their visual field. A binocular helmet mounted display system, integrated with AR capabilities by others, will be delivered at the end of the Phase II Base period. Additional hardware upgrades and advancements in the Phase II Option include an improved light source, eye-tracking and a curved visor.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
