Title
Scalable Compact Ultra-short Pulse Laser Systems at 2 micron

Abstract
NP Photonics proposes to develop scalable compact ultra-short pulse laser (USPL) systems at 2 micron by taking advantage of it's mature fiber laser technology and innovative laser technologies based on highly doped glasses. The proposed USPL systems have the advantages of compact size, high scalability, and high reliability. In this Phase I program, we will investigate the feasibility and study the risk of developing scalable compact USPL systems using our highly doped glass laser technologies. A femtosecond USPL system capable of producing < 10 fs pulses with 1 J energy at a repetition rate of 4 kHz and a nanosecond USPL system capable of producing 100 ns pulses with 40 J energy at a repetition rate of 10 Hz will be developed and characterized in Phase II.
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization.
