Autonomous Construction of Forward Operating Base Structures (ACOFOBS)
Abstract
Autonomous Construction of Forward Operating Bases(ACOFOBS) is an advanced approach to self building robotics applied to the rapid construction of forward operating bases and other contested military structures. ACOFOBS allows military forces to rapidly forward deploy construction robots that autonomously build structures with limited human management. Warfighters are freed up to defend the perimeter and maintain safe cover while robotic systems do the difficult and exposed construction work. ACOFOBS functions as a force multiplier, using robots to perform jobs that human warfighters would otherwise have to do, increasing warfighter safety and force effectiveness. GS intends to establish the scalability of ACOFOBS under the proposed effort, proving that scaling such a technology across the DoD is both feasible and cost effective while having significant benefits to warfighter safety and urgency.
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization.
