Title
Low Temperature Metasurface Optics for Infrared Filtering and Dichroic Beam Splitting
Abstract
Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) proposes to design, fabricate, demonstrate and deliver infrared optical filters using metamaterials that have predictable and repeatable performance at cryogenic temperatures. The goal of the program is to provide optics to Arnold Engineering and Development Complex (AEDC) that provide more reliable performance at low temperatures in order to better characterize the performance of scene generators and detectors at cryogenic temperatures. A development effort is envisaged to mature the technology relevant to this application and transition it to AEDC. Working prototypes of two dichroic beam splitters and three longwave infrared bandpass filters will be built and tested at room temperature and 77 K and delivered for in situ testing.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
