Research Type
Small Technology Transfer Research Program (STTR) Phase II
Title
Ultra-rapid, AI-assisted, automated digital engineering and digital modeling, assembly, and environmental test of an ESPA-class satellite in 10 months or less (MERCURY)
Abstract
The focus of this project will be to demonstrate the capability for our AAA enabled, rapid automated satellite bus Digital Engineering (DE) & automated digital model generation system (MERCURY) to design and then assemble a payload tailored, ESPA-class satellite from mission-concept to launch-ready satellite, on a tactically relevant timescale of less than 10 months. Our rapid, automatically digitally engineered satellite bus will be payload tailored for a novel, autonomy-enabling, on-board digital twin payload. MERCURY will receive data on the launch, the satellite mission, and payload characteristics and then will automatically generate physics-anchored digital models and twins of the satellite bus designs that satisfy the mission objectives.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II. STTRs are completed in conjunction with a research institution.
