Title
Binary Explosive Gel for Agile Combat Employment
Abstract
The MatrEX gel development is centered around a multi-phase approach to creating a polymer additive that meets specific operational and safety requirements for explosive ordnance disposal use by the Air Force. Phase I involves identifying and testing a polymer additive that enables a gel to cure within a desired timeframe, without premature reactions, and has an adequate shelf life. Phase II focuses on performance testing to ensure the product meets the required detonation velocity, overpressure levels, and is compatible with existing disruption tools and shaped charges. Safety testing in Phase III will confirm flammability standards, resistance to shock, friction, and electrostatic discharge, both for separated and combined product components.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
