Title
3D Modeling using 360-degree Image Capture and Sensor Fusion
Abstract
Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation (AFAMS) is at the forefront of a transformative initiative in multi-domain training, leveraging cutting-edge, photo-realistic 3D models for Modeling and Simulation concepts such as in aircraft and cockpits. The inherent shortcomings of current digital training methodologies, characterized by poor training results and prolonged timelines, mandate a radical reengineering. Colonel Robert Epstein, AFAMS commander, underscores this urgency, stating, Most of the simulation content we use is CGI generated and not realistic. There is a requirement to map the world as accurately as possible for combat training. The directive is clear: transition to precise digital twins that transcend the limitations of conventional CGI, delivering simulations of unparalleled realism. This imperative ensures Airmen's preparedness across diverse and dynamic operational scenarios. ???????Circle's imaging technology revolutionizes this landscape by mitigating parallax and perspective errors rendering 360-degree video content creation scalable for the first time. When coupled with modern photogrammetry and SLAM algorithms, this technology facilitates the generation of highly photorealistic synthetic training environments, overcoming the limitations of existing technologies. This advancement ensures warfighters can train in a safe, controlled environment that replicates real-world conditions. Elevating the efficiency and realism of live training exercises, our 3D simulation technology holds the potential to revolutionize how warfighters are trained and developed across the Department of Defense (DoD).
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
