Title
Lightweight, Improved Ballistic Protection for C-130/MC-130
Abstract
MACRO Industries will bring together new materials, novel solutions, and decades of composite material expertise to develop a replacement for the legacy C-130 ballistic armor system with a single, upgradable composite laminate floor that incorporates ballistic protection. By combining the ballistics and floor into a single integrated system, significant weight savings can be realized. These materials include MACRO-Lite (ML), an aramid material with a proprietary resin system that renders it extremely resistant to wear and impervious to water and chemicals, novel armor solutions for improved performance, and new materials including Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) and Aramid/Para-Aramid materials.
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization.
