Title
MatriNova: A Biologically-Free Amino-Acid Nanofiber Revolutionizing Soft Tissue Restoration with Simplified Logistics and Extended Shelf Life
Abstract
DAF medical units are looking for point-of-injury wound care to prevent infection and morbidity in austere environments. More than 1 in 3 service members wounded in action experienced an infection during OIF and OEF; with over half of these being skin, soft tissue, or bone infections. Significant morbidity is associated with these infections. Soft tissue repair has seen limited progress in recent decades with current market solutions causing problems like inflammation, disease transmission, limited strength and shelf life. MatriNova, the nanofiber healing membrane for bone and soft tissue regeneration, has a shelf life of 3 years, needs no special storage conditions, has 99.9% bacterial reduction, and promotes regrowth with its extracellular-like structure. During Phase I effort, Matregenix will engage with expeditionary medical units, such as USAF Pararescue units, who must be highly skilled in tactical combat casualty care.
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization.
