Title
Biocanic: integrative health for medical and operational readiness
Abstract
Integrative medicine is defined as the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is supported by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals, and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing. By combining data from a range of sources (e.g., self-reporting, medical check-ups, laboratory tests, and digital health monitoring devices), integrative health can provide health reports and recommendations that allow organizations to push beyond traditional medicine in providing a personalized healthcare system that focuses on optimizing individual health and performance. Approximately 38% of adults in the United States already benefit from integrative health, and U.S. spending on integrative health was $30.2 billion in 2021 (1.1% of total healthcare costs). Healthcare systems are increasingly expected to deliver integrative health solutions (e.g., to meet patient demand; utilize effective evidence-based health practices; and reduce healthcare costs). The cloud based Biocanic Integrative Health Platform (BIHP) imports, processes, and visualizes a wide range of physical and cognitive parameters. Combined with the unique Biocanic Precision Health Engine (BPHE), which leverages machine learning (ML) to analyze complex and heterogeneous patient data, we offer integrative medicine practitioners a holistic health decision support system that generates individual lifestyle, training, and treatment suggestions. For the USAF, it can provide personal health management strategies in the context of human performance optimization, enhancing operational readiness, or preventive and curative clinical care. Our platform can process a range of health parameters, clinical data, genetic data, dietary status, and more. During this Phase I project, we will explore the USAF needs and requirements for an integrative health platform, especially in the context of medical readiness, women s health, as well as veterans health. We will identify initial USAF customers and engage with end users, both at the operational and implementational levels, to determine their specific needs and the platform adaptions required. We will start by reaching out to the USAF Medical Readiness Agency as a first point of contact.
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization.
