Abstract
Project Drone Recognition, Identification & Flight Tracker (DRIFT) In response to the rapidly evolving landscape of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and the pressing need for enhanced security and airspace management, we present a pioneering project: the development of a prototype information system for remote ID and real-time tracking of UAS. This project addresses critical challenges arising from the proliferation of UAS, including security concerns, regulatory compliance, and addresses the United States Air Force s need for a Supplemental Data Service Provider to provide complimentary data to Counter UAS and UAS Traffic Management information systems. Our solution represents a significant leap forward in UAS tracking and identification capabilities, facilitating the safe coexistence of drones with manned aviation. Our prototype information system signifies a significant stride toward untangling the complexities of modern airspace management and the DoD s concern with the security of its facilities. With remote ID sensing capabilities of it least 1.5 kilometers, real-time tracking, scalability, and subscription-based access, it offers a comprehensive solution to meet the demands of various stakeholders in the UAS ecosystem. Beyond the core features, our system integrates supplementary data for enhanced situational awareness with relevant and filterable data such as weather and flight restrictions, delivered to the end user. At conclusion of this Phase II period, this effort promises to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of drone technology and safety.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
