FABRICATION AND TESTING OF THE PROTOTYPE 8-AXLE FORTIS RAILCAR TO PROVIDE CAPABILITY FOR LARGE-SCALE TRANSPORT OF SPENT NUCLEAR FUEL (SNF) AND HIGH-LEVEL RADIOACTIVE WASTE (HLW). INCLUDES FABRICATING AND TESTING AN AAR S-2043-COMPLIANT FORTIS RAILCAR PROTOTYPE, CONDUCTING RAILCAR TESTING REQUIRED BY AAR S-2043, AND OBTAINING APPROVAL TO OPERATE THE FORTIS RAILCAR FROM THE AAR EQUIPMENT ENGINEERING COMMITTEE (AAR-EEC). THE FORTIS RAILCAR PROTOTYPE MUST COMPLY WITH AAR’S MANUAL OF STANDARDS AND RECOMMENDED PRACTICES, AND IS DESIGNED TO CARRY ONE SNF TRANSPORT CASK AT A TIME.
