MEDICAL EXPENDITURE PANEL SURVEY (MEPS) - MEDICAL PROVIDER COMPONENT (MPC) COLLECTS DATA FROM MEDICAL PROVIDERS ON EXPENDITURES FOR MEDICAL SERVICES PROVIDED TO MEPS HOUSEHOLD COMPONENT (HC) RESPONDENTS. WORK PERFORMED INCLUDES MANAGING SIGNED HOUSEHOLD AUTHORIZATION FORMS, DEVELOPING PROVIDER RESPONDENT MATERIALS, AND CONDUCTING NATIONWIDE DATA COLLECTION FROM HOSPITALS, OFFICE-BASED DOCTORS (OBDS), SEPARATELY BILLING DOCTORS (SBDS), HOME HEALTH AGENCIES, LONG-TERM CARE INSTITUTIONS, AND PHARMACIES USING PHONE, MAIL, SECURE EMAIL, AND WEB PORTAL METHODS. THE CONTRACTOR ABSTRACTS BILLING RECORDS TO GATHER PAYMENT INFORMATION, IDENTIFIES SBDS FOR HOSPITAL EVENTS, CODES AND PROCESSES DATA TO STANDARDIZE PAYMENT SOURCES AND MEDICAL CONDITIONS, AND ENSURES DATA SECURITY AND QUALITY CONTROL. PROJECT TASKS ALSO INCLUDE RECRUITING AND TRAINING STAFF, PREPARING DOCUMENTATION, COORDINATING WITH AHRQ AND THE HC CONTRACTOR, AND ENSURING COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL DATA SECURITY AND CONFIDENTIALITY GUIDELINES.
