Background
The Department of Veterans Affairs, Columbia VA Health Care System (VAHCS) Medical Center is a 216-bed facility located in Columbia, South Carolina. It provides acute medical, surgical, psychiatric, and long-term care services, along with primary, secondary, and some tertiary care. The facility also operates satellite outpatient clinics in various locations across South Carolina.

The goal of this contract is to replace the existing domestic water and fire piping loop on the Columbia VAMC campus to meet current VA standards, reduce service interruptions, accommodate future construction, and rectify existing water piping issues.

Work Details
The contractor is required to prepare the site for building operations which includes demolition and removal of existing structures. The work involves replacing the existing domestic water and fire piping loop with a new system designed according to current VA standards. Specific tasks include:
- General construction and alterations
- Demolition of existing structures
- Paving and grading
- Drainage work
- Interior demolition and restoration in buildings 100 and 100A
- Infection control measures during construction
- Ensuring no damage occurs to surrounding areas including public/private roads, utilities, and existing VA facilities
- Proper disposal of project-related debris and maintaining a clean work area at the end of each workday.

Period of Performance
The period of performance for this contract is 687 days from the Notice to Proceed (NTP). Work should be conducted during normal working hours from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Overtime or weekend work may be authorized during emergencies with prior approval.
