PN: 636A6-23-101 Construct Steam Tunnel (DM)   12

Background
The VA Central Iowa Health Care System (VACIHCS) is undertaking a project to upgrade and expand its existing steam distribution and tunnel system. The goal of this contract is to provide necessary infrastructure improvements to enhance the operational capabilities of the facility.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for all supervision, labor, equipment, and materials required for construction, alterations, mechanical, and electrical work as outlined in the provided Construction Documents. Key tasks include:
- Constructing a south tunnel from Building 11 to the future Foundational Services Building (approximately 296 LF).
- Constructing a north tunnel from Building 3 to near Building 5 (approximately 561 LF).
- Installing new steam lines in the new tunnels.
- Reconfiguring steam lines in a portion of the existing tunnel near Building 11.

Civil work includes:
1. North Tunnel:
a. Excavation for new tunnels and vaults.
b. Installation of new concrete sidewalks.
c. New asphaltic concrete pavement.
d. Restoration of grades, landscaping, and erosion control measures.
e. Installation of storm and sanitary sewer components as indicated on drawings.
f. Waterline relocations as indicated on drawings.
g. Natural gas main relocations as indicated on drawings.
h. Verification of existing conditions using an outside private company to locate utilities.
i. Maintenance of clearances for utilities as indicated on drawings.

2. South Tunnel:
a. Excavation for new tunnels and vaults.
b. Installation of new concrete sidewalks.
c. New asphaltic concrete pavement.
d. Restoration of grades, landscaping, and erosion control measures.
e. Removal of segments of existing tunnel.
f. Removal of abandoned electric lines while protecting in place electric lines, fiber optic lines, high-pressure gas mains, and existing steam tunnels.
g. Waterline relocations as indicated on drawings and demolition of abandoned waterlines.

Period of Performance
540 calendar days from issuance of the Notice to Proceed (NTP), including material lead time.
