Background
The Engineering Service’s mission is total oversight and management of the Environment of Care at the Edward Hines VA Hospital. This contract aims to replace and repair the second-floor roofs of Building 200, addressing critical deficiencies identified in the Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA) reports.

The project aligns with the Veterans Affairs vision to provide world-class benefits and services to veterans.

Work Details
The scope of work includes:
- replacing, repairing, and maintaining areas of the existing protected membrane roofing system;
- removing unused equipment and supports;
- installing fall protection handrail systems;
- installing stairs between roof levels and crossover steps for pipe locations;
- removing the current single-ply roof area and gypsum plank deck, replacing them with a new steel deck and single-ply roof system;
- removing vegetation and debris from roof areas;
- ensuring compliance with Hydro-Tech requirements to maintain warranty.

Current conditions indicate damage to the inverted membrane roof system, necessitating replacement of ballast pavers, repairs to roof drains, flashings, and installation of safety features such as railings and stairs. The project also addresses safety hazards posed by vegetation and debris on the roof.

Period of Performance
The estimated period of performance for this project is 360 calendar days after Notice to Proceed. If Alternate Bid 1 is awarded, this period will be reduced by 60 calendar days.

Place of Performance
The construction will take place at Building 200 of the Edward Hines Veterans Affairs Hospital located in Hines, Illinois.
