Description

GWMP MEMORIAL AVE IRRIGATION EXTENSION
Background
The George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) was established by Congress on May 29, 1930, through Public Law 71-284, the Capper-Cramton Act. The parkway runs along the Potomac River through Virginia and Maryland, as well as the District of Columbia, protecting the landscape and natural shoreline while offering scenic vistas of Washington, D.C., and connecting several important historic sites.

This contract aims to extend irrigation and rehabilitate turf along Memorial Avenue to enhance the parkway's aesthetic and functional qualities.

Work Details
The contractor is responsible for removing existing turf along both sides of Memorial Avenue from the Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) to the Boundary Channel Bridge. This includes disposing of the existing turf at an authorized facility.

An in-ground irrigation system will be installed to service the rehabilitated areas, with components that must be compatible with ANC's existing Hunter Landscape Irrigation system. Following irrigation installation, sod will be laid using a specific blend of Tall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass that matches the ANC's turf. The contractor must submit specifications for sod for approval before installation.

Care must be taken not to impact historic features during work, and any affected infrastructure must be restored to original conditions post-project. Additionally, if artifacts are discovered during construction, work must stop until further examination is conducted.

Period of Performance
The contract performance period is from January 20, 2026, to May 15, 2026.

Place of Performance
Memorial Avenue, Arlington VA 22202.
