Background
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area is seeking to stabilize the concrete wharf on Alcatraz Island, a contributing feature of the Alcatraz Island National Historic Landmark District built in 1939. The project aims to make critical repairs and seismically strengthen the wharf, which is currently in fair to poor condition with varying degrees of damage. The National Park Service (NPS) will use information obtained through this notice to develop an acquisition strategy for a competitive acquisition for this requirement.

Work Details
The project will involve repairing the historic, steel-cased concrete piles, concrete beams, and concrete slabs, as well as installing two new seismic resisting elements to bring the wharf up to a seismic Risk Category III structure. The construction activities must be structured and scheduled to minimize visitor impact, as Alcatraz Island receives an average of 1.6 million visitors annually.
The construction site is located at least two miles over water from the nearest suppliers and lodging facilities, requiring coordinated transportation services with the Park and Park Concessioner, Alcatraz Cruises. The project also involves protective measures to ensure the surrounding area remains undisturbed, compliance with historic property treatment standards, and adherence to seasonal shutdowns mandated for protected species.
