Background
The National Park Service (NPS), through its Denver Service Center (DSC), is issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) for construction services at Vicksburg National Military Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The goal of the contract is to stabilize cultural and historical resources, including the remains of Civil War soldiers, while ensuring public safety due to the deteriorating conditions of the site.

Work Details
The project encompasses two main tasks: Stabilize Terraces and Graves (VICK 310725/324137) and Stabilize Mint Spring Bayou (VICK 209252).

For the stabilization of terraces, approximately 272 linear feet of soldier pile and lagging retaining wall will be constructed with an earthen buttress for slope stabilization. Key tasks include mobilization and demobilization, clearing and grubbing, demolition of existing drainage features, fencing, site grading, excavation, asphalt paving, concrete paved ditches, installation of drainage structures and HDPE storm drain piping, soldier pile and lagging retaining wall construction including setting H-Piles and installing permanent ground anchors.

Additionally, two-stage french drain and underdrain construction will be performed along with new turf establishment and environmental protection measures. Archaeological investigations will monitor ground disturbances to protect archaeological resources.

For Mint Spring Bayou stabilization, a slope stabilization system will be constructed using high-capacity strand anchors with reinforced concrete anchor plates. This includes placing reinforced granular fill in front of anchor benches to stabilize the slope adjacent to Mint Spring Bayou. The project also involves mobilization of construction crews, minor clearing, erosion control measures, and installation of wall drainage systems.
