Background
The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), located in Washington, DC, is seeking to enhance its Large Plasma Test Facility (LPTF) through a sole source contract with Leybold, USA. This initiative supports high-priority projects within the Department of Defense (DoD), where any delays could significantly impact mission objectives. Leybold has previously contributed to the LPTF's development and possesses unique technical knowledge essential for this project.

Work Details
The contract entails the addition of a Phase V Xenon Thruster Test System to the existing LPTF. Key enhancements include:
- Increasing pumping speed for individual antechambers by adding cryogenic pumps.
- Isolating these pumps from the antechambers using isolation valves.
- Designing and installing an internal shroud at one end of the chamber.
- Providing a new revision of control software for integrated functionality across the LPTF.
Leybold is uniquely qualified due to its proprietary knowledge from previous phases (I-IV) and will ensure seamless integration of new capabilities into the existing system.
