WEAPONS GENERATION FACILITY AT BARKSDALE AFB, LA   2

Background
The U.S. Department of the Navy, through the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southeast (NAVFAC SE), is seeking to construct the Weapons Generation Facility (WGF) at Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB) in Barksdale, LA. The WGF is an 84,000 square feet munition storage facility along with four additional facilities within a 28-acre secured and armored fenced complex. The facility is primarily single story with a 9,658 square foot second story mechanical and electrical utilities support space, a Diesel Generator Building, and a Fire Pump Building. The project includes construction of the primary facility, the Weapons Generation Facility, and supporting force protection facilities - an Entry Control Facility and an Alert Fire Team Facility. The WGF is designed with security features to protect nuclear-capable launch gear and includes a large secure area meeting ICD/ICS 705 requirements as well as an unsecured portion that includes administrative offices, flight operations desk, conference rooms, and support spaces.
The fenced compound housing the WGF facility and related buildings is protected by six strategically located Remote Targeting Engagement System (RTES) towers.

Work Details
The work involves using brand name specifications for 12 units of steel doors for the RTES tower of the Weapons Generation Facility at Barksdale AFB. The steel doors are required to provide ballistic protection equivalent to the precast concrete RTES tower walls in order to protect internal components and personnel from small arms fire up to .50 caliber Armor Piercing (AP) bullets. The estimated cost for each door is up to .50 caliber AP Bullet resisting. The construction contract for the Weapons Generation Facility totals making the twelve proprietary steel doors the total value of the construction contract overall.

Period of Performance
The period of performance for the construction contract is planned for fiscal year 2023.

The construction projects will be performed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Barksdale, LA.
