The United States Air Force (USAF), in collaboration with the General Services Administration (GSA), is conducting market research to identify potential solutions for upgrading the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system at MacDill Air Force Base's Building 89 data center. This initiative aims to ensure a reliable and efficient power backup system that can handle current and future demands, thereby supporting the continuous operation of critical data center infrastructure. The GSA's involvement underscores a commitment to procuring high-quality, sustainable solutions that align with federal standards and regulations.

The scope of work outlined in the Statement of Work (SOW) involves replacing three existing 60Kw Eaton BladeUPS systems with a new 125KVA UPS system. This upgrade seeks to enhance the reliability of power backup, minimize downtime during installation, and ensure that all processes comply with environmental regulations for equipment disposal. The project requires comprehensive services including labor, materials, tools, equipment, and supervision needed for the removal of old units and installation of new ones. Additionally, it includes an electrical survey to evaluate the existing distribution capacity or recommend necessary upgrades.

Key requirements for the new UPS system include sufficient sizing to meet current load requirements with provisions for at least a 50% expansion capacity in the future. It must provide a minimum runtime of 30 minutes at full load capacity and feature independent switching capabilities per row of racks. Furthermore, advanced features such as network management and monitoring capabilities are essential to facilitate local user access. A built-in maintenance bypass switch is also required to allow seamless UPS offline removal when necessary. Preferred technologies include lithium-ion or advanced VRLA systems from reputable manufacturers like Vertiv Liebert, APC, Eaton, or Schneider Electric.

In addition to technical specifications, vendors are expected to offer extended warranty options and maintenance contracts on an annual basis to ensure ongoing support and service reliability. This project not only aims at enhancing operational efficiency but also emphasizes sustainability by adhering strictly to environmental guidelines during equipment disposal processes.
