Description

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), in collaboration with the General Services Administration (GSA), is seeking to conduct a post-construction seagrass survey within the Intracoastal Waterway (IWW) Crossroads and Jupiter dredge areas. This initiative is part of the USACE Jacksonville District's ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and aims to assess the impact of dredging activities on local benthic ecosystems, particularly focusing on submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) such as seagrasses. The project falls under the Federal Supply Schedule 899 for Environmental Consulting Services, Special Item Number 899-1.

The primary objective of this contract is to execute comprehensive benthic surveys during the summer growing season from June 1 to September 30, 2026. The contractor will be responsible for providing all necessary resources including personnel, equipment, and materials required for conducting two separate surveys at the specified locations. These surveys are critical in monitoring the health and recovery of seagrass beds post-dredging operations. Qualified biologists with expertise in surveying benthic organisms will conduct these assessments to ensure accurate data collection and analysis.

Seagrasses play a vital role in coastal ecosystems by providing habitat for marine life, stabilizing sediments, and improving water quality. Given their ecological importance, it is crucial that any disturbances caused by construction activities are thoroughly evaluated. The contractor must demonstrate relevant expertise in surveying similar benthic resources such as oyster reefs and other SAV types to qualify for this contract.
