Description

Sole sourced

The services and supplies for this important event are needed immediately to satisfy mission requirements. Denying the opportunity to participate in National competitions will be detrimental to the mission of the JROTC programs to create opportunities for cadet success in the integrated curricular activities. Further, the Fitness challenge and drill competitions are tremendously important aspects of the Army's Junior ROTC (JROTC) hands-on application of training as required by Cadet Command Regulation 145-2 and the authorized Program of Instruction. This regulation, accredited curriculum, and approved training guidance requires JROTC Cadets to participate in co-curricular events such as Fitness Challenge competitions and mandate that Drill be taught to all JROTC Cadets. The Department of the Army has funded JROTC to execute activities such as Fitness Challenge and Drill to ensure our Cadets receive the proper training to meet the regulatory requirements. Drill is so integral and important to the JROTC program that every JROTC program is required to teach drill and to compete with other units. Their level of competition and achievement is
evaluated under Army TC 3-21.3 and Cadet Command Regulation 145-8-3. The Drill Competition Championship is tentatively scheduled to be conducted on the first or second Friday of May every year. The National High School Drill Championship is
scheduled for the first weekend in May of every year along with the National JROTC Fitness Challenge Championships. These competitions are planned at least a year in advance by high schools and the command to ensure all the competitions are
concluded by the end of the school year. If the Army is unable to send its JROTC Cadets to these competitive national drill competitions and to the multi-faceted Fitness Challenge competition, it will fail to highlight the achievements of its JROTC Cadets and defeat the purpose of the instruction presented and participation in the JROTC program. The Cadets' skill, discipline, teamwork, and commitment are showcased in these competitions. While it may be possible to showcase these skills through smaller local
competitions, it will be more costly; moreover, the regional and national competitions foster a sense of accomplishment and pride for the Cadets and the Army's JROTC programs. These competitions serve as a nationally recognized venue for the Cadets to showcase their prowess in technical proficiency, teamwork, and military drill to not only other Army JROTC units, but to those of its sister services, their families, and the public.will be detrimental to the mission of the JROTC programs to create opportunities for
cadet success in the integrated curricular activities.
