South Texas Endangered Ocelot Protection and Recovery Services
Background
The South Texas Endangered Ocelot Protection and Recovery Services contract aims to provide ocelot protection and recovery in South Texas, USA. The contract is a non-personnel services contract that involves close collaboration with various entities including the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Customs and Border Protection, international Governments including the Mexican Government, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Universities, Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) and public landowners within Texas. The ocelot populations in Texas are endangered under the Endangered Species Act, and the contract aims to support ocelot recovery in the U.S. by establishing a new population of ocelots and supporting existing populations through genetic diversity and population size augmentation.

Work Details
The contractor is required to provide all personnel, equipment, supplies, facilities, transportation, tools, materials, supervision, and other items necessary to perform ocelot protection and recovery in South Texas. This includes operating captive breeding facilities, conditioning facilities, release facilities, quarantine facilities for ocelots relocated from other countries or within the United States. The contractor is also responsible for relocating ocelots with desired genetic composition from other institutions to the quarantine and captive breeding facilities, collecting male ocelot genetic material (semen) from Mexico and Texas, translocating live ocelots from Mexico to support the captive breeding program, managing captive propagation programs to produce genetically appropriate ocelots for future release, conditioning and releasing ocelots to establish a new population in South Texas and supplement wild populations in Texas. Additionally, the contractor must monitor and track survival of released ocelots and their use of thornscrub forests to steer thornscrub restoration.
