Trident II (D5) Strategic Weapon System Guidance Subsystem Production

Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) has awarded a new contract to The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, Cambridge, Massachusetts, the design agent and prime contractor for support of the TRIDENT II Guided Missile Guidance System. The maximum dollar value, including the base contract period and three options is $329,980,380. This contract was awarded on a sole source basis pursuant to 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(1).

SSP's requirements for this effort are available from only one responsible source. The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory has been the design agent for Navy Strategic Missile Guidance Systems since inception of the Fleet Ballistic Missile Program in the late 1950's. The procurement supports the MK6 Life Extension (LE) MOD I Guidance System effort to manufacture tactical guidance system hardware which will provide a credible strategic deterrent throughout the extended life of the TRIDENT II weapons system. No other contractor can satisfy SSP's requirements in accordance with FAR 6.302-1 and 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(1).
