Description

Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) has awarded a contract to The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, Cambridge, Massachusetts, the design agent and prime contractor for support of the TRIDENT II Strategic Weapon System (SWS) Guidance System. The total contract value, including the base contract period and one option period, is $392,709,738. This contract was awarded on a sole source basis pursuant to 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1), as implemented by Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1, only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements.

SSP's requirements for this effort are available from only one responsible source. The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory has been the design agent for Navy Strategic Missile Guidance Systems since inception of the Fleet Ballistic Missile Program in the late 1950's.

This procurement is for technical and engineering services necessary to maintain and sustain the TRIDENT II SWS Mark (MK) 6 Guidance subsystem. This contract also includes a requirement for strategic guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) subject matter expertise to research and develop current and maturing concepts and technologies that will enable follow-on, full-scale development of the 2nd Life Extension (D5LE2) of the Navy's TRIDENT II (D5) SWS. Additional scope includes research and development of new and alternate GN&C technologies to support alternate and developing SSP missions, integration support for Columbia/Dreadnought ship construction, Reentry subsystem support and support for the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS)/Hypersonic development.

Justification and approval for awarding a contract on a sole source basis is documented in SSP J&A number 21,050 (attached).
