Description

The Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA) reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) and ushered in a new era of national education policy that combines the ESEA's historical dedication to creating equity of opportunity for all students to access a high-quality education with a new path toward comprehensive student success by providing our nation's youth with a well-rounded education (WRE), safe environments and safe and healthy students (SHS), career readiness, and tools and resources for achieving digital competency and learning via the effective use of technology (EUT). Through subpart 1 of Title IV, Part A (Title IV-A), known as the Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) program, this responsibility is entrusted to each state or territory education agency (SEA), which is given the freedom and flexibility to determine the best approach to achieving these goals for the students, schools, and local education agencies (LEAs) within their jurisdiction.
