Background
The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Detroit District is conducting market research to assess the availability of entities capable of supporting the construction of a new Generator and Duct Bank at the Soo Locks Complex in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. This initiative follows a change in the NAICS Code from 236220 to 237130, indicating a focus on Power and Communication Line and Related Structures Construction. The goal is to gather information that will inform the acquisition strategy for this construction contract.

Work Details
The project involves two main components:

1) Generator System - Construction of a new natural gas fueled back-up generator system, including the removal of existing back-up generators and associated diesel fuel storage and distribution systems. A new 5,400 square foot load-bearing CMU and brick veneer building will be constructed to house the generators, switchgear, and control equipment adjacent to the Magazine Street Substation. This system aims to provide reliable standby power to the Soo Locks Complex.

2) Duct Bank - Construction of a new duct bank and manholes extending from Magazine Street Substation to a new manhole above Shaft #1, including installation of new cable trays and supports within Shaft #1 and the service tunnel leading to a splice point between Shafts #3 and #4. New feeders will be installed while existing feeder cables will be demolished and removed, ensuring no unused cables are left abandoned.
