Sole Source Brand Name Zoll Defibrillators Upgrade

The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center and the local CBOCs must replace 34 ten-year-old ZOLL
defibrillators that have exceeded their life expectancy and must be replaced. Defibrillators are
critical life-saving equipment used in medical emergencies. It is vital that uniformity is
maintained with this equipment for patient, visitor, and employee safety. Clinical staff has been
trained, and new staff will receive training in this unit. Biomed has been trained on the
maintenance of this unit. Defibrillators are used during medical crises. Multiple units will
require staff to differentiate between the proper uses of different units during stressful life
critical situations that could harm patients and/or employees. Because these are life support
items used in emergency situations, a variance in brand could feasibly result in the improper
use of the device, potentially causing serious injury or death to a patient.
