Description

In response to national disasters and emergencies, FEMA may require short shelf-life meals for immediate consumption. Meals shall include an entr e along with additional meal components that can be consumed either as part of the meal or reserved for a supplemental snack. All meals must be "nutrient-dense" form - without added sugar, sodium, salt and saturated fat. The meals should provide the basic food groups. Nuts shall NOT be included due to diverticulitis and allergy conditions. No beverages or drink mixes required. Meal components shall be appropriate for consumption by the full range of disaster survivors including children and seniors (65 years and older). Each case shall include a variety of entr e meals. All meals/kits shall at least have a minimum of six (6) months shelf-life remaining upon delivery to disaster location. Meals shall include: utensil package, napkin, salt and pepper, and salt free seasoning packet as applicable. Meals shall be "easy to open" and shall require no additional utensils to open or equipment to prepare. Vendors shall have the capability to provide both self-heating and non-self-heating meals.
