Background
The Shore Protection Project on Hutchinson Island, Martin County, Florida, is initiated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to enhance coastal resilience through the construction of a dune and beach berm along approximately 4 miles of shoreline.

The project aims to protect the coastal environment and infrastructure from erosion and storm damage by utilizing beach-compatible sand sourced from a designated offshore borrow area.

Work Details
The construction tasks include:
1. Dredging beach-compatible sand from borrow area C1-B, located approximately 6.3 nautical miles offshore in Federal waters.
2. Construction of a dune and beach berm in two segments between R-01 and R-25 of the Martin County Shore Protection Project shoreline.
3. Implementation of environmental protection measures including:
- Endangered species observers for hopper dredges,
- Screening and monitoring for sea turtles during dredging operations,
- Turbidity monitoring to ensure compliance with environmental standards,
- Beach tilling and quality control for the fill material used in construction,
- MEC (Munitions and Explosives of Concern) construction support,
- Vibration control and monitoring during construction activities.

The geographic locations for the construction projects include the shoreline between R-01 and R-25 along Hutchinson Island in Martin County, Florida, as well as the offshore borrow area C1-B.
