Sharps Container and Controlled Substance Disposal Services   2

Background
This solicitation is issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs for reusable sharps container removal and disposal services, as well as controlled substance removal services at the Buffalo, Batavia, and Stratton (Albany) VA Medical Centers.
The goal of this contract is to ensure safe and compliant disposal of medical waste, which is critical for maintaining health and safety standards in these facilities.

Work Details
The contractor shall provide proper containment, removal, and disposal of sharps waste at the Buffalo, Batavia, and Albany VA Medical Centers. Services include:
- Exchange of sharps containers to avoid overfilling; Buffalo and Albany facilities serviced at least twice per week; Batavia serviced at least once every two weeks.
- Provision of containers with direct drop and top feed; racks containing used sharps must not be left unattended during servicing.
- Installation, collection, emptying, disinfection, and re-installation of containers by the contractor.
- Containers must be mounted in the same locations as current containers; fluctuations in container numbers are expected but should not exceed a 5% change without mutual agreement.
- Containers must be emptied before reaching 75% full or within 30 days of last empty date.
- Reusable sharps containers must be disinfected and tested to ensure compliance with health standards.
- A manifest log of all pickups must be maintained along with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for any chemicals used.
- Compliance with regulatory agencies including JACHO, EPA, NIOSH, NYSDOH, NYSDOT, NYSDEC, OSHA is mandatory.

Period of Performance
The contract will be performed from June 1, 2025 to May 31, 2030.

Place of Performance
The services will be performed at the Buffalo, Batavia, and Stratton (Albany) VA Medical Centers.
