Description

Cost-Plus Fixed-Fee (CPFF) type contract (W911QX22C0003) to Sensors Unlimited, Inc. (SUI), fully-funded with a value of $2,312,711.44. SUI's proposal, Energy Efficient Electronics and Photonics was submitted in response to Materials Research Campaign: Energy Efficient Electronics and Photonics (Topic 2.c) under Broad Agency Announcement, W911NF-17-S-0003. The subject effort has a base 12 month period of performance (PoP) from 23 February 2022 to 23 February 2023.

The objective of the effort is to develop and integrate future near zero power circuits, cutting-edge Radio Frequency (RF) electronics, and advanced electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors operating in the region of shortwave infrared (SWIR) up to midwave infrared (MWIR). Power projection and maneuver for friendly forces operating in an Anti-Access / Area Denial (A2/AD) environment are severely constrained by an adversary's ability to put friendly personnel and platforms at risk. Identifying and neutralizing threats can be achieved by distributed, system-of-systems enabled RF and EO/IR capabilities when friendly forces are deployed in a close, or stand-in , distance to the adversary. However, achieving and maintaining stand-in distances is expected to be difficult or impossible once hostilities have commenced, requiring low-cost, prepositioned resources that can be called to deliver effects once roused from deep sleep. The two primary applications this effort targets are unattended ground sensors (UGS) and Tier I Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). These development services tie directly into Army Materiel Command's priority of modernization as the low-cost, small Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) platforms further developed under contract will allow warfighters to maintain situational awareness (SA) within a signal dense and contested area of operations with devices requiring limited power supply, prolonging mission lifetimes.
