Scraping FWD Journal Bearing Cap

Background
The Norfolk Naval Shipyard is seeking contractor services to perform scraping on the bearing cap of the #3 Main Reduction Gear forward journal bearing onboard the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77). The goal of this contract is to ensure that the bearing pinch is adjusted to meet specified tolerances and to maintain operational readiness of the naval vessel.

Work Details
Contractors will perform scraping on the bearing cap of the #3 Main Reduction Gear forward journal bearing, which measures approximately 32.25 inches in outer diameter and 19 inches in length, with a parting half surface area of less than 375 square inches.

The work involves increasing the bearing pinch from a clearance of 0.001 inches to an interference fit of 0.000-0.001 inches at Top Dead Center (TDC), without exceeding a worst-case interference of 0.003 inches. A satisfactory blue check must follow pinch correction, ensuring at least 75% overall contact within the bolt pattern, with non-contact areas distributed evenly rather than concentrated.

The work must comply with Drawing 662E662 and LTR 9241 Ser 05V/004 dated January 5, 2017, which provide recommendations for CVN 68 class Main Reduction Gear Bull Gear Journal Bearings. Up to two contractors will be required to work one shift of eight hours from Monday through Friday, with potential overtime on weekends as necessary.

Period of Performance
The period of performance for this contract is scheduled from August 29, 2025, to October 7, 2025.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed onboard USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) located at Naval Operating Base (NOB).
